No source found in this research proves that an EA funder, ControlAI or Anthropic planned Jacob Coxon's resignation. The Pivot to AI claim is an opinion piece by a long-time EA critic. The Kingy AI evidence audit rates the "psyop" claim as not established.
Coxon gave the Wall Street Journal an exclusive before he posted. That is advance media planning, and it is normal for an exclusive. Zvi Mowshowitz reports no third-party coordination beyond friends.
ControlAI's funders are not public in the sources found. ControlAI publicly criticizes Open Philanthropy.
Several people on the map have no EA tie found: Zoë Hitzig, Geoffrey Hinton, Ilya Sutskever. William Saunders has only one weak, unconfirmed mention.
The Sanders–Casar "Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act" was announced on 3 September 2026, five days before Coxon's post. It was not a response to it.
Anthropic leaders say they do not identify as EA. The documented links are investors (Tallinn, Moskovitz, FTX), staff such as Holden Karnofsky, and staff attendance at EA events.
